#27 Pen y Fan yeah!
June 4, 2026
Grey, rainy, endlessly boggy fields. This was our impression of the Brecon Beacons from our first trip there in November 2023. We had walked in horizontal rain and slept in a swamp till we were soaked through to our toes.
This weekend trasformed that completely. It was a spectacularly sunny day: the sky was clear, the hills sparkling green, and we were ready for a big adventure.
We were visiting with Andrew's lab so the hike was in good company: 10 adults and 3 babies! We got to experience for the first time being the slow ones in a group of hikers, having to stop to feed Pemi, change Pemi, put sunscreen on Pemi, get the midges away from Pemi, help Pemi sleep, etc. After summiting Pen y Fan (the tallest mountain in southern Wales) we decided to abort on our 10 mile hike and take an easier (8 mile) route...
A picnic in the sun and a final stop to refresh our feet in the stream and the day was complete.
