#35 Morning ride in the Lea Valley

August 31, 2026

We've been eager to learn how to bike with Pemi, excited about the possibilities for adventures and travel together that would open.

After a wonderful weekend in Canterbury, we took advantage of the very quiet roads on a bank holiday early morning to ride to the Lea Valley. It was a short ride, and once we were there we were on bike trails the whole way.

It was fun, and a great learning experience for us all. Pemi was not fully enthused at first by the bumpiness, his slightly too big helmet, and the sun in his eyes.

We took lots of short breaks to check on him, have a little chat and get him more comfortable. We figured out how to adjust his shoulder straps, pulled out the emotional support rice cakes, and sang songs.

After an hour we took an extended break, pulled out the peanut butter sandwiches (for everybody!), and did some walking and pointing at things.

After that, Pemi was able to relax and take a nice snooze in the chariot all the way home.

Excited for the next one! We'll bring a sunhat next time!
