#37 Around the Lakes during Andrew's race
September 26, 2026
It is time again for a Pemi and Jasmine weekend adventure while Andrew is on his own adventure: this time a 110km race through the Lake District.
We were staying in Keswick and had planned to meet Andrew near the halfway point of Grasmere for a flyby greeting between 11:00 and 13:00, depending on when he would get there.
Around 7:30 we were eager to be outside, but the bus to Grasmere wasn't for another hour! Jasmine decided to walk for an hour along the lake Derwentwater and the woods at Walla Crag to get the bus at a stop further down on the way to Grasmere.
The lakeside walk was beautiful. A gentle trail among oaks and pines gave stunning views over the lake and the mountains behind it. Pemi pointed at the sheep in the fields and the dogs walking by. Realizing we weren't going to make the 8:30 bus, we slowed down to enjoy the walk with no rush.
While Jasmine was getting hot walking up Walla Crag, Pemi dozed off under a light drizzle dripping off the leaves of the forest.
He woke up when we got to the bus stop, a tiny bit of sidewalk along a busy road. What a shock to wake up to cars rushing by when you have fallen asleep in the quiet of the forest.
The bus ride was a whole adventure in itself, but we finally made it to Grasmere, as the sun started to crack through the clouds.
We walked up Andrew's route and just as Jasmine was putting the backpack down to let Pemi walk, Andrew appeared! A quick hello and we snapped a picture before he was off.
Pemi, fully dressed in waterproofs and red wellies (British for rain boots!) discovered mud and puddles as we waddled back down the trail. We had a picnic on a bridge and then Pemi fell into deep slumber in the ergobaby while Jasmine hiked, past a goergeou waterfall, up to Easedale Tarn which was a stunning hidden gem of a lake tucked up on a plateau surrounded by green fields and mountains.
Pemi was still asleep, but Jasmine decided to wait on a rock so that he could wake up in this beautiful place instead of on a busy road. He loved it! He walked down the trail, explored all the puddles, found rocks to throw in them and bracken (ferns) to stuff in Jasmine's pockets.
We finished the hike down with Pemi in the ergobaby, while we shared a banana, apple and a peanut butter sandwich.
A perfect day, I'd say!
